This week we offer up our 162nd podcast, and true to our normal form, we cover a lot of ground (including some interesting, but off-topic, stuff). I give some insight on a custom transmitter neckstrap I am making and we also describe a new approach to pumping fuel into your slimers (thanks, Greg!). Tim has had some fun with his new (and somewhat STOLEN! LoL) Sherline 5400 Mill by trying it out on a Mother's Day present for his wife, and Ron shares what all he's been up to while he was away from us. Also, the RCadvisor is back again this week with an insightful discussion on the different types of RC pilots (it certainly made me stop and think!). Well, I'm back at home after a fun-filled week in Americis, GA, and after Tim and I do a little re-hash of SEFF, I get into a "dissection" of the old Mud Duckling sharing my experience with the plane (my mistakes and things I will do differently with the next rendition). I also talk a bit about a friend's radio that I saw at SEFF, and Carlos is back again with another "Ask The RCadvisor" segment (learn about choosing the perfect trainer). Oh, and we have a few news items to share, too! LINKS: 2DogRC has a fresh new website worth checking out Telemetry Voice Announcing System for you HiTec guys Heavy Duty Servo Horns (SWEET!) If you want to see the videos that were shot by me, Ed, and Thomas, I currently have them all at AllThingsCrash. Oh, and for all of you guys that have been wondering about our Mini Gremlin GiveAway, we haven't forgotten! We'll try to get the drawing done this week. :) |

While at SEFF this year, we were able to get together and discuss all of the goodness that was known as of Friday night, April 27th. I hope you enjoy our nonsense. And please excuse the less-than-optimal audio quality - hey, we were in a camper at SEFF! LoL |
Mon, 30 April 2012
Well, SEFF 2012 is now in the history books and a great time was had by all. As I write this, I am at the house of the famous lmopar69 and I will be departing on my trip home first thing in the morning. That should put me home some time late Monday night and I will be uploading a fresh show that we recorded while at the field Friday night. The show should go live no later than Tuesday morning, May 1st! Category:general

Hey, gang! There's been tons going on since we last visited with you, what with the Toledo Weak Signals Show and SEFF 2012 preparation. In this 159th installment, we discuss what we heard from the the big show in Toledo (neither of us were able to attend) what with a few product announcements and some great pictures a listener shared with us. And in prep for SEFF, well, you should see my workshop - it's a mess! LoL I did, however, get turned on to a great new addition to SlowBipes fleet - the new StuntBipe! In fact, you'll get to see it first-hand (and maybe even fly it) if you're attending SEFF. I was really impressed with it! We also get another visit from the RCadvisor with a discussion on wing incidence. And hey, if you've got a few minutes to spare, you should check out a couple of very informative new videos that Carlos has released (in the links below). Once last note: Tim and Eli are planning to pluck the winner of our RACores Mini Gremlin GiveAway sometime this week! If you cruise over to our FaceBook Fan Page, you can see a photo of my completed one. If you don't win this one, please consider ordering one from Jim. They're inexpensive, easy to build, and are a great way to get your friends into combat! LINKS: StuntBipe (A HeadsUpRC Exclusive!) Millennium RC MSSX (I'm taking mine to SEFF!) Since all three of your Crash Cast hosts are planning the pilgrimage to SEFF 2012 later this month, we thought it a good idea use this 158th installment to go over some of the preparation you might want to go through before going on a trip like this, be it a trip to your local flying field, or a long haul to an out-of-town or out-of-state-event. Also, the RCadvisor is back again with another Ask The RCadvisor segment - this time you'll get some great tips for preparing for a maiden flight on that new aircraft. LINKS: RCRN Is BACK! (And better than ever!) The deadline for entering our Mini Gremlin GiveAway (courtesy of Jim over at RACores) is fast approaching! All you have to do to enter is to LIKE us on our Facebook Fan Page and upload your picture of your crashed RC aircraft and you'll be entered! If you do not have a Facebook account, then you may consider emailing me (address in the show) your picture and I'll post it for you. Also, please note that we will not have a show next week, due to our spending Easter Sunday with our families, but we'll be back the following week! Feel free to listen instead to some of our older nonsense. :) |

In our 157th installment, we finish up our three-part series on safety, so now there are no excuses for accidents - we told you! LoL Also, the RCadvisor is back again this week with his second part to his series on Spins, so you'll want to hear this one to learn what you may do if you should find yourself stuck in one. Oh, yeah, there's also more of our usual banter, but I promise, no more lengthy discussion by old men fussing about our ailments. :) LINKS: ForeverCali (this is where the GTYC shirts come from) Electric Four Start 120 (Thanks, Vintauri!) In this 156th installment of the show, we'll start right off on some pain and suffering that Ron has been putting up with. Yep, we're just a couple of old guys fussing about our ailments. LoL Honestly, though, we do get into some fun RC talk, so if you want to skip through the first 12 minutes, or so, we'll fully understand. :) There is, however, some great discussion on some of the letters we have received, as well as some of the pictures you guys have posted over on our Facebook Fan Page for our Mini Gremlin GiveAway sponsored by our buddy Jim over at RACores. We will be giving away this plane in April, and all you have to do to enter is to post your best crash picture on the Fan Page and you'll be entered in to our GiveAway. If you don't have a Facebook account, but still want to get in, just email me directly with your picture and whatever details you'd like to share, and I'll post it for you. Oh, and you won't want to miss this week's Ask The RCadvisor segment, as Carlos starts into a two-part series on Spins and Spiral Dives. Good stuff! Yes, that's right - three "40-somethings" out looking for a safe alternative to the "pogo". I bet that left a lot of you behind in the dust! LoL Seriously, though, it's that time of year again where we will be blowing the dust off of our toys and making weekly pilgrimages to our favorite flying sites. Once a year we like to talk a little about safety in this hobby and we start the ball rolling in this episode where we discuss some tips for safe travel to and from your flying field. In this 155th installment, we've also got some news, as well as another great segment from the RCadvisor - this time it's a bit of a continuation on last week's tips for becoming a better RC pilot. Carlos shares a great site that details aerobatic maneuvers, as well as their "K Factors" ( level of difficulty), and how you might select the maneuvers right for you to become a more accomplished pilot. All you need to do to enter the drawing is to upload your personal best CRASH picture over on our FaceBook Fan Page. Yep, that's it! We will accept entries until April 15th and we'll draw a lucky winner during that following week. (Thanks to Matt M. for providing the idea for this GiveAway!) |

And that Mopar dude, too. LoL In this 154th installment of our show, I found myself without a co-host! Never fear, though, as we have a couple of surprise guests in the workshop. Both of these gentlemen took time out of their schedules to visit the workshop and tell us about a little event that's held every year over in Perry, Georgia - The Perry Swap Meet!! Of course, we talk about a bunch of other stuff, too, but I think you'll enjoy it. Thanks so much to both guests for coming on! And if you haven't figured out who these two guys are, just download the show already!! :) Also, our good friend Carlos, the RCadvisor, is back again this week with another fantastic segment, this time some tips on becoming a better RC pilot. Oh, and if you haven't visited RCadvisor.com, you should take a moment to head on over there, as Carlos has been cranking out tons of great articles! Tim and I are in the workshop for this 153 installment while Ron is still away. We talk about all kinds of great stuff we've found in cyber-space, since neither of us really have had much of a chance to get much done in the realm of RC. The RCadvisor comes to the rescue, though, with a continuation of last week's Dihedral discussion, with this week's topic leaning a bit more towards the arena of Wing Sweep. In this 151st installment of our little show, we jump all over answering some letters in the old mailbag, but the best thing about this week's show is that we have the RCadvisor back live in the workshop! Carlos has been involved with some very extensive UAV work during that last year, or so, and he sheds some light on this whole Unmanned Aerial Vehicle thing. I think that you'll find this to be one of our more interesting shows, especially the discussion on the H.A.L.E. project that Carlos has been involved with(very cool stuff!). LINKS: RepRap (Tim got to see some of these last week) Bottle Copter?? (Mat's been at it again! LoL) 2 Brothers Hobby; YouTube Channel (Great Info!) In one of the letters we answered on this week's show, we discuss some power system options for the Mini Intern that we are doing the Build-Along series on, as well as the option that I chose. I will be documenting several options in an upcoming video and will have links to everything I suggest in the Mini Intern Build-Along article very soon! |

For our 150th show, we've got tons of great news to discuss, what with a plethora of new products and some very interesting videos and articles, to boot! We also discuss the tissue covering techniques I've been promising on our Mini Intern Builad-Along, since I was abole to get two more videos uploaded recently. A third video is also out there showing the drawing for the winner of our Mini Intern that RadicalRC let us give away. Well, it seems that the allergy thing is still not letting up on ol' Crash, so for this 149th installment, we are trying something completely different. I have entrusted the show to Ron and Tim this week, and they have done an outstanding job (in spite of my attempts to distract them LoL)! They've got some new products to talk about, as well as some interesting FPV discussion, too! Also, the RCadvisor is back this week with the second part of his discussion on Pitch Stability, so be sure you don't miss this one. Well, pretty much all we have to report this week is news from around the RC world. I got some brief flights this week on a favorite, but not much building on anything for me lately. You're still going to want to lend an ear to this 148th installment of our show since we have some fairly interesting things to share. Also, the RCadvisor is back this week with the first part of a two-part series explaning "Pitch Sensitivity". LINKS: HeadsUpRC Selling SlowBipes (Be watching! In this 147th installment of our little show, we talk about some very cool videos, some friend's websites, some new technology, some SEFF news, and we even answer a listener's question about one of my build techniques. With all of that, we still managed to squeeze in another great "Ask The RCadviser" segment where Carlos explains some common builder mistakes. This week, two more videos have been posted for our Mini Intern Build-Along series, so if you're building along with me, grab your kit and get started on that fuselage!
