Review talk? Yep! In this installment we discuss Kevin Martin's (kmart) review of the LazerToyz' Lazer II over at RCGroups, my "light" review of RealFlight's G5 upgrade, and the build I have in process right now on the XtremeFoamies Sentinel (for an upcoming review). Also, Dorsal is finished with his contract work in Southern California and we get to welcome him back to the show.
Additionally, IFLYOS shares the details from his most recent indoor flying session at a new locale. Tim has some really great info for first-time indoor flyers! We are pleased to have Andy Erwin (Draftman) of MidCalSPADs as our guest this week. Andy used SPAD aircraft to reacquaint himself with the RC hobby after some time away, and even used these designs to teach his two sons the ropes of the flying game. Now Andy brings his work to you in the form of SPAD Flat- and ARF-kits for some of the most popular designs. Check out his site at the link below!

This week's show is a special one, in that we get to meet an incredible young lady active on the RC scene. Kimberly Panos (Pylon Princess) tells us all about the E-200 class of pylon racing that she and her husband, Mark, helped to organize with the Utah Valley Aeromodelers. As if RC Pylon Racing wasn't already enough to impress everyone in this male-dominated hobby, Kim is also an RC Heli pilot as well as a full scale pilot!

In this installment, Guru Aviation is the topic of discussion. It's me, Tim, and Chris Carnes talking all about the wares this new online supplier of foam-flavored heavenly goodness offers. Anybody for a 3D performer that requires ABSOLUTELY ZERO carbon fiber for structural reinforcement? If so, the Lucky Yak and King 260 are the planes for you!

In this show, Tim gives a full report on the Fighter Flight Against Cancer Fly-In. You may recall from last week's show that this event serves as a memorial to the late Mr. Kenneth Martin, as well as honors others that are fighting (or have fought and lost) the dreaded battle against various forms of cancer. Check the link below for information on how you may also contribute to this event!
Thanks go out to Phil (pval3 on RCG) for turning us on to a supplier of hot-wire cut foam wing cores that are based on the old injection-molded cores that ACE RC used to provide. These core sets were the foundation for many scracth-built planes over the years, including many design by the late Mr. Fred Reese. If you have a line on a Ripper or Shredder kit from Lanier RC, or some information to help me recreate them, please email me! Has my talk of boycott spurred your desire to lend some support? We're back again this week, but this time with better sound quality and some talk about some planes I'm certain you'll want to check out. Whether you're a seasoned pilot or just getting your feet wet in the RC hobby, consider building a SPAD as your next plane. SPADs (Simple Plastic Airplane Designs), built from seemingly unorthodox materials, offer the builder unique, rugged, and inexpensive designs that perform well. This will probably be the first of several segments on these types of aircraft! LOL Thanks go out to Spadman for inspiring this episode!

We're back with the PhlatBoyZ this week for our monthly update, and what an update it is! Listen as we discuss the latest release of the PhlatScript, as well as changes made to the pricing structure affecting all new PhlatPrinter orders. Oh yeah, and this installment also contains some interesting information about a NEW machine that the PhlatBoyZ expect to be offering very soon! This information even caught ME off guard! LOL Also, the PhlayBoyZ now have an official online store for hawking their wares to the world!
I apologize for the sound quality on my channel in this show. For some reason, my PC decided out of the blue that it should default to my built-in mic rather than my Audio Technica studio mic. This perplexes me since the only thing I've used this PC for in the last 3 weeks is the podcast, and I have not monkeyed around with any of the audio settings for close to six months. Re-recording the show was not really an option, and I didn't want to deny you listeners this great, informative episode, so here it is cleaned up as best I can... |

Let's flash back to the past for a moment, shall we? DATELINE: Toledo, OH, Saturday, Aril 4th The plan was to go fly a bit at the RCGroups Open Flying session after the Toledo RC Show closed down for the evening. We would then retire back to Mark and Trish's hotel room and set up for a live version of TheCrashCast. We would use Trish's new laptop and wireless card along with the webcam that was broadcasting from the skies over the PhlatBoyz Booth. Well, the 'cast was slightly delayed due to someone (ahem!) forgetting the power cables for said laptop. LOL Nonetheless, we pulled off a LIVE webcast. albeit a little behind schedule. This week's installment is a replay of the audio from that session where we discuss how the PhlatPrinter MKII was received during it's public debue. We also discuss some of the cool things we saw at the show, as well as neat people we met! I've got tons of information from this show that I intend to share with all of you, but we'll have to cover it in future episodes. I'm totally BEAT from the 19 hour drive back! I wanted to share a quick little video I shot this morning with you guys on the subject of Z Bends for your control surface linkages. I won't use Z Bend pliers, as the ones I tried years ago yield a very narrow area for your servo or control horn and they do not give you true 90 degree bends like you need for bind-free movement of the surface. I learned this technique from an old modeling friend and have found it to be priceless! Look for more vids down the line covering how I make pushrod assemblies, including a total Carbon Fiber Pushrod assembly...

I have enjoyed many of the Lanier planes over the years and it's a shame if they're gone forever! |

Well, Spring has sprung! With that (in my neck of the woods) it means that the winds are probably gonna be fierce until about the end of June. What's an electric modeler like me supposed to do? Switch back to Nitro, that's what!
I pulled out a couple of Nitro-powered winners from my hangar and, after about a three year absence from this aspect of the sport, I found it was just like riding that ol' bike. Winds aren't so abusive to the heavier Nitro planes, so it looks like I'm no longer gonna be an electric-exclusive pilot, after all! In this ninth installment, I'll talk about some "must-haves" in the flightbox for all you Nitro nuts out there! My Steals Of The Week: Nice Switch-Mode NEC ESC Great Back-Up LiPo Charger |

In this 8th installment, we get all the dope on the new MKII PhlatPrinter CNC straight from the PhlatBoyZ, Mark and Trish. Expect to see this bad boy tearing up some foam at breakneck speeds at the Toledo show! Also, the PhlatBoyz will be launching a little contest to make things interesting over at the PhlatForum - you'll want to participate in this for your chance to win a nice prize!
I'd love to hear your comments on the audio in this episode - both the PhlatBoyz and me are trying out some new microphones. I think theirs sounds great, but I now need to investigate building a small "dampened environment" booth to achieve the best audio on my end! I'm clipping a bit due to having the gain set a bit too high, but I'll try to get the levels a little better on the next show - WOW this thing's sensitive! After finally figuring out how to airbrush (thanks to RCGroups' ADreher!), I had success last week with painting my SloFly Micro 22! In this installment Dorsal and I discuss finishing techniques for all of your foamie airplanes - especially airbrushing.
While the Micro 22 was really nothing more than an airbrushing test-bed, it turned out so nice that I had to complete it. Below is the video I shot of this little plane's maiden flight on Sunday, 2.22.09, but if you got to YouTube, you can see it much better in High Quality. I also get to release some hot information regarding our favorite CNC machine. Trust me, you're gonna want to hear this one! Sworn to secrecy, I've been holding on to this piece of information for quite some time now and I hafta say, it's been KILLING ME! LOL Also, we're back with some more Steals Of The Week! In this episode I have another guest stop by the workshop for a visit. Dorsal and I talk all about RC, our favorite CNC machine for RC, kites, etc. What a great guest! Also, a couple of "Steals Of The Week" and a new Phase 3 plane worth checking out.
Dorsal's Site A Great Motor/ESC Combo Phase 3 Mini SpitFire LazerToyz If you're not seeing the header on this page, it's something screwy with the Internet Explorer application. This site views fine in FireFox, Safari, and even Safari for the iPhone (go figure!). I'm still waiting for some technical support from the fine folks that I am paying to host and publish this show. |

In my third installment I have a couple of guests in the workshop - Mark and Trish (aka The PhlatBoyz). We shoot the breeze for a while discussing the PhlatPrinter, flying, the weather, etc. I got to try out some indoor flying with my two newest planes and have included links to those videos. Also, my "Steals Of The Week" segment includes some great solutions for charging your batteries.
